PAINTING GUIDE
Exterior Walls
  • bg
The painting or coating of a facade is an important protective barrier essential to the conservation of walls and structures of your house. Therefore, maintaining its good conservation is essential not just for aesthetic but also functional reasons.

The exterior walls are permanently subject to elements of erosion and contamination which may affect the quality of its finish and maintenance.

Focus on the quality and durability by using a good quality paint and having a careful preparation of the surface so as to obtain the best results in the immediate and long term. This way you avoid unnecessary expenses in the correction of defects and more frequent painting.
Smooth paints
When the wall has a smooth surface, you can use a high quality smooth paint. You can choose a paint with a mineral appearance and extra matte, like Hydroneuce or Silicatus, or Neucegold for a subtle and pure acrylic finish. If you want maximum resistance to the effects of time, use Endurance.

Elastic membranes
on walls with a tendency for movements or expansions, use an elastic membrane. Neucecril Neuflex, due to their high flexibility accompanying the movement or expansion of the wall, conceals small cracks and prevents the penetration of humidity in the substrate.

Textured paints
When a wall has irregularities, painting with a textured paint can disguise them, not needing extra care with the stabilization of the surface. Textuneuce (normal sanded) Terturflex (flexible sanded) or Neucetex (fine sanded) offer a wide possibility of finishes and uses of paints with textured finish.
Constant exposure to UV  rays can speed up color changes.

Despite all the technical evolution and the use of the best raw materials, some colors may not be as resistant to the effects of UV rays. Use appropriate colors for exteriors, usually selected from an exterior or facades color catalog.

Beige, light brown and other neutral and earth tones are normally resistant to UV rays, thus remaining unchanged for much longer. Some reds for example, are particularly not advised.

If you have a specific color in mind, check with a NEUCE agent before buying the paint about whether it is appropriate for painting outdoors. In the NEUCE exterior catalog, you can find colors made specifically for painting outdoors and with improved durability.
There are many factors to be taken into account and steps to follow which may make the work more technical, such as the weather conditions and drying or curing times, as well as the treatment of cracks or leaks.

A few days of good weather is necessary for correct curing and drying of all processes, from surface preparation to painting or coating. Do not paint a facade if there are no prospects of good weather in the following days. Intense rain, heat or cold can dramatically affect the final result.
If you are not sure that you will be able to carry out the task alone, please seek help from a professional and so avoid application errors and take full advantage of the qualities of the preparation and finishing product.
Wash the entire surface. If necessary, use a pressure machine or a wire brush to remove the previous paint, if it is chipped.
If there is algae or fungi infestation (molds or verdigris), apply a coat of disinfectant solution and let dry according to the datasheet.
Remove the damaged or cracked cement or plaster, and correctly repair any existing cracks and holes. Respect the curing and drying times of the paste.
Check if the wall is waterproof by observing how quickly it absorbs water when wet. If necessary, waterproof it. Imperneuce mixed with Portland type cement makes a mortar which can be applied with a roller in one coat. Once cured, it waterproofs the surface and forms an excellent basis for the primer or the coating being used.
Apply a primer or sealer to delay or minimize the effects of alkalinity or saltpetre within the plaster and to allow for good adhesion and coverage of the paint or coating. Primary Pliolite, Sealant Pliolite (solvent based) or Primary Hydroneuce (water based), allow for an excellent base for the finish on exterior walls.
